Photovoltaic leading renewable power installed in Europe in 2010

Monday May 16, 2011 ER

The EurObserv'ER estimate for 2010 indicates that solar energy was a leader in the installation of renewable power in the European Union. It exceeded 13 GW, with a market growth of 120% compared to 2009.

Fotovoltaica, líder de potencia renovable instalada en Europa en 2010

The year 2010 marked a milestone. For the first time the photovoltaic industry installed more power than any other renewable energy in the European Union. EurObserv'ER estimated that connected approximately 13,023.2 MW of photovoltaic modules to the network in the European Union, which represents an increase 120.1% yoy compared to 5918.2 MW in 2009.

Again Germany is the European train. 7,411 MW installed in 2010, nearly double what it did in 2009. Second place for the second consecutive year, is in Italy with 2,321 MW tripled the scale achieved in 2009. The third and fourth place goes to the Czech Republic and France, which also greatly improved his numbers in 2010 over the previous year. Spain is in fifth place with 370 MW installed, twenty times less than Germany, six times less than Italy and 4 times less than the Czech Republic.

The addition of new plants increases the PV capacity of the European Union until 29327.7 MW. 60% of the power installed in Germany (17,370 MW), which holds the top spot. Spain is the second largest with 3,808 MW, almost 13% of the total in Europe. The difference between Germany and Spain is huge, and is more than likely to lose second place will not be long for Italy. The Italians have already reached the 3,478 MW and quotas in 2011 planned development are much higher than the English.

Europe continued to lead the installation of photovoltaic plants with more than 80% of installed capacity worldwide, ahead of other major markets increased their capacity in 2010. Japan installed just under GW in 2010 (483 MW in 2009). It estimated that U.S. will have added about 800 MW in 2010 (compared to the 473 MW, 2009). As for China, is expected to increase capacity of at least 400 MW in 2010 (compared to 160 MW in 2009).
